Wind Energy Education
SOPAC, together with the Universtity of the South Pacific (USP) , Risoe National Laboratory (Denmark) jointly implemented a programme on wind energy capacity building of Wind Energy. The project entitled "Capacity Building in Wind Energy for Pacific Island Countries was funded by UNEP/Danida. As part of this project, a wind turbine was erected at Nabua, Suva, Fiji Islands.
One of the final activities of the project is a regional workshop which will be held at the University of the South Pacific (USP) between 14 and 19 November 2005.
Objectives
The formal objective of the regional workshop is to present the results of the above mentioned project. However, most of the workshop will be dedicated to continue building capacity in the region with both policy makers and utilities in understanding the possibilities and limitations of wind energy systems, and their relevance for the Pacific region.
Main resource people for ths workshop were wind energy experts Dr. Per Lundsager and Per Noorgaard from Risoe National Laboratory (Denmark), with further contributions from Juan Zak (UNEP/Risoe), Dr. Surendra Prasad (USP), Ron Steenbergen (FEA) .

Participants and resource people at the opening on 14 November 2005.
