REGIONAL EARTH DAY 22 APRIL 2008
ENERGY EFFICIENCY EFFORTS (EEE) IS ALL IT TAKES – A CALL FOR ENERGY SECURITY

| This year is the 38th anniversary of Earth Day. Hundreds of events are popping up all over the globe and April 22 will see hundreds of thousands of nongovernmental organizations, teachers, and faith-based groups, among others, calling upon their government on significant and equitable action for climate change.
| In the Pacific region we follow the global theme through highlighting the need for the increasing use of renewable energy technologies and promoting efficient energy use and savings as possible ways to contribute to national development.
| For the past seven years SOPAC has organised activities to celebrate World Earth Day through a variety of in-country and regional activities and we are looking forward for more activities & collaboration for this coming Regional Earth Day on 22nd April, 2008. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the countries that have participated in the last seven years and would like again to work together in making the 2008 Regional Earth Day a more fun and meaningful day for all our targeted groups and countries as a whole. Nonetheless, our regional theme for 2008 is
| “ENERGY EFFICIENCY EFFORTS (EEE) IS ALL IT TAKES – A CALL FOR ENERGY SECURITY?
| Earth Day events are often scheduled for the weekends before or after April 22. Many communities and groups choose to organize environmental activities over the longer time period of Earth Week or even Earth month with events scheduled throughout the month of April. Regardless of when you hold your celebration, the most important thing to keep in mind is:
| Earth day is every day for everybody and you can plan any activities to be held on the same day or any available date through out the year
| | So take the initiative, organise your event and be part of the global effort to protect our children’s future. |
