ENERGY EFFICIENCY EFFORTS (EEE) IS ALL IT TAKES – A CALL FOR ENERGY SECURITY











Background and Activities

The Regional Earth Day, April 22nd 2008 like previous years follows in creating awareness on energy issues throughout the region.

The World Earth Day global theme for 2008 is “A call for Climate" and our regional Earth Day theme is Energy Efficiency Efforts (EEE) is all it takes – A call for Energy Security.

One of the activities for this years regional Earth Day is the reprinting of a technical publication titled " The Home Energy Guide for the Pacific - Energy Efficiency and Conservation for the Domestic Householders" targeting the general public and domestic householders throughout the region.



The home energy guide booklet is designed to assist people in Pacific Island Countries (PICs) make informed decisions about choices that are both energy efficient and conservation conscious. This publication provides awareness on common areas of energy wastages and solutions focused on assisting households better understand energy conservation including the use, operation and maintenance of appliances and utilities that have been installed in buildings. To that end, attention is not only devoted to efficient energy-use practices in the residential sector, but also embraces other additional energy conservation practices including some concepts of ideal home construction designs, proper transportation practices and domestic household activities such as cooking, efficient water usage and proper waste management.

The national energy offices will be assisting in disseminating the campaign materials to schools, communities and interested organisations.

The Regional Earth day Webpage is an ongoing medium and will be updated with Earth Day activities from the region.
