Vanuatu

A Sub-Regional Workshop on Biofuel in Vanuatu was held from 1-5 August 2005. It is cofunded by the Japanese Government and PIEPSAP. More information on the workshop can be found on the following: Regional Workshop Biofuel

Mr Zieroth attended the workshop and also carried out PIEPSAP consultations with Vanuatu from 2-4 August 2005.

PIEPSAP assistance for rural energy initiatives, biofuel activities and geothermal development currently appraised. Further assistance with revising Vanuatu Energy Policy has been raised informally.

The Government of the Republic of Vanuatu formally has requested March 2006 with assistance in review and revision of the Vanuatu National Energy Policy.

Mr Anare Matakiviti scheduled PIEPSAP consultations with Vanuatu Government from 8-15 June 2006.

The Vanuatu Government finalised and agreed on the Terms of Reference (ToR) on Technical Assistance to Vanuatu Government from PIEPSAP for the developmnet of National Energy Policy Framework (NEPF). Mr Anare Matakiviti scheduled consultations and first policy development workshop with key stakeholders and NSA representatives from 4-12 August 2006.

As part of PIEPSAP's ongoing consultations with Vanuatu, a second consultation workshop was scheduled from 20 - 28 October 2006.

A final consultation workshop for the development of the Vanuatu National Energy Policy Framework was scheduled from 27 Nov - 1 Dec 2006. The final workshop focussed specifically on the strategies and action plan.

Through assistance of PIEPSAP the Vanuatu Energy Policy was endorsed by Cabinet ministers August 2007.
