Palau

Consultations with Palau were held at the REM 2004 in Madang, PNG. As a follow up, PIEPSAP Project Manager had scheduled consultations with Palau from 16 April - 22 April 2005.

During the consultations it was agreed to focus PIEPSAP co-operation on the development of renewable energy and energy conservation policies and strategies with an emphasis on the development of sustainable institutional structures for the existing renewable energy based rural electrification projects in outer islands and in the preparation of the European Union/EDF 9 renewable energy projects.

Palau Work Plan for Palau Energy Conservation Strategy (PECS) developed.

Request for Quotation for Palau Energy Conservation Strategy (PECS) execution was issued in September 2006. Download ToR for PECS Mr Herb Wade and his team were selected to execute the tasks under the ToR. Technical assistance to PECS by consultants field work by consultants started in January 2007 with baseline development and first training workshop for steering committee members. Training workshop for energy managers, purchase of audit equipment. Energy audit Capitol building finalized. Final workshop on PECS held. Follow up activity taken over by EU/REP 5.

Presidential order (Executive Order No, 245) on energy conservation issued as a follow up of PIEPSAP energy conservation programme, which is considered as a major result for PIEPSAP support to Palau.

Participation in EDF 10 Multi Country Energy Programme (MCEP).
