Niue

Consultations with Niue were held at the REM 2004 in Madang, PNG.

Mr Gerhard Zieroth further consulted with Niue government from 12 March - 21 March 2005. Consultations indicated the following focal areas of cooperation:
  • Energy policy development and consultation on energy policy
  • Institutional development and capacity building for energy sector management
  • Preparatory work for EU Renewable Energy Project (wind energy siting study, public consultation and awareness)

Niue Draft Work Programme was presented to government in May 2005.

Niue Energy Action Plan (NEAP) developed, focus on energy security, environment and development of indigenous energy resources. Solar electrification and pumping project developed as lead activity under NEAP.

A consultation workshop was carried out for Niue from 11 - 21 November 2005.

In the third quarter of 2006 the Niue Cabinet endorsed the PIEPSAP supported National Energy Policy and Strategic Plan.

Solar electrification and pumping project developed as lead activity under NEAP. Follow up on solar project now under way.

Support to planning of EDF 9 renewable energy project.

International market survey for small scale wind applications tendered (among others input into EDF REP 5 wind activity in Niue)

Contribution to ToR for wind risk assessment by external consultant and review of wind study for REP5.

International market survey for small scale wind applications completed.

The PIEPSAP Manager participated in the procurement/tender evaluation for REP 5 renewable energy and energy conservation equipment.

Participation in EDF 10 Multi Country Energy Programme (MCEP).
