Key Result Area 4: ISM Infrastructure established and in use in each Country

Activities completed
  • Acquisition of IKONOS imagery for South East Viti Levu:
  • Rationalisation of existing spatial data into data centre.
  • Conducted GPS survey of road network for image rectification purposes.
  • The Project produced Special GIS and RS Products as per country reports.
  • Acquisition of relevant hardware and software and training in the use of appropriate cost-effective GIS systems
  • Study of country facilities and development of an action plan completed.
  • Establishment and support of Fiji National GIS/RS data centre with international communication capabilities.
  • Conducted training on Backdrop Production including the rectification of historical aerial photographs.
  • Conducted training and technical assistance with the rectification, interpretation and incorporation of remote sensed data into GIS. Also training provided for - MapInfo? Customisation, GPS Handling and Image Enhancing. The Project assisted PWD build their GIS system.
  • Training in extracting information from imagery, including simple land cover analysis, change detection, classification and other common processes.
Activities in progress or ongoing..
  • On-going capacity building in ICT and specifically in running and maintaining the Fiji GIS/RS data centre.
  • On-going integration of the datasets inside the GIS/RS data centre with training of the stakeholders
  • Promotion of GIS/RS data sharing policy.
