Key Result Area 3: Implement comprehensive hazard and risk management tools within the framework of an integrated, holistic approach for sustainable development (Island System Management)

Activities completed
  • Consultation with govt., NGOs and private sector on ISM related issues.
  • Assisted Fiji National Disaster Management Office (NDMO), in distributing and prioritising outcomes and recommendations of Suva Earthquake Risk Management Pilot Project (SERMP).
  • Landslide assessment training for MRD, PWD, NDMO,NLTB and Fiji Forestry.
  • Intensive support and technical advice provided by the Project on Community Disaster Preparedness organised by PCDF. Assisted in the "Train the Trainers" workshop held at Sanasana village SW Viti Levu.
  • Completed extended landslide assessment study at Nauluvatu settlement, Walu Bay, Suva and review of previous site investigations (MRD/NDMO).
  • GIS/RS based landslide assessment in the Navua catchment and selected catchments of the Lami-Suva-Nasinu? area (Forestry/MRD/NLTB)
  • Completed assessment of river-flooding and bank erosion in Navua.
  • Integration of BGS 1995 landslide inventory and GIS-modelling of S-Viti? Levu (Veisari-Serua) into Map-info.
  • Completed reconnaissance surveys, consultation and design for establishment of a flood warning system for Navua River, Fiji.
Activities in progress or ongoing..
  • On-going integration of the GIS/RS datasets inside the MapServer with training of the stakeholders and re-rectification of satellite imagery for the Coral coast and updating the files online.
