Funding of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Projects under the Kyoto Protocol's Clean Development Mechanism






Key CDM Project Requirements
  • Projects must yield real, measurable and long-term emission reductions.
  • Reductions must be additional to any reductions that would have taken place in the project’s absence.
  • Projects must contribute to the host country’s sustainable development.
  • Projects should not result in the diversion of existing Overseas Development Assistance (ODA).

Potential benefits for Pacific Island Countries
  • Attract foreign investment in energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies.
  • Reduce reliance on imported fossil fuels and enhance energy security.
  • Reduce GHG emissions that contribute to climate change.
  • Generate inward investment flows or cleaner technologies through the generation of Certified
