PIESD Partnership




Introduction

The Pacific Island Energy for Sustainable Development (PIESD) partnership is developed between the energy stakeholders in the Pacific Island Countries and Territories (PICTs), Intergovernmental organisations, major donor partners and private sector with the main objective to achieve a sustainable energy sector.

Objectives
  • To increase availability of adequate, affordable and environmentally sound energy for the sustainable development of all Pacific Islanders;
  • Accelerate the transfer and adoption of clean and renewable energy technologies; and
  • To assist with the implementation of the Pacific Islands Energy Policy (PIEP).

To achieve PIESD objectives
  • Ensure that sufficient affordable enegy is available to promote the economic and soical development of the people of the Pacific;
  • Increase the sustainalbe production and minimise the negative environmental effects of energy use in the Pacific Island Countries;
  • Improve the performance of the energy sector through efficiency and conservation, private sector participation and development of indigenous resources and capacity; and
  • Ensure that the regional energy sector policies and policy statements are consistent and compatible with accepted international, regional and national goals.
