Cook Islands


Activities completed or in progress..
  • Completed SWATH mapping needs assessment.
  • As a result of five successive tropical cyclones (Meena, Nancy, Olaf, Percy & Rae) sweeping through the Cook Islands during a four-week period in February 2005, SOPAC’s Community Risk programme and the Hazard Assessment Adviser completed post-damage assessment surveys from 26th February to 05th March, in Rarotonga and Aitutaki. Satellite imagery and full coverage for Rarotonga, Aitutaki and Mangaia was ordered and procured.
  • The initial EDF9 multi-stakeholder consultations, to introduce the Project, identify Project intervention area(s) and national issues within the focal areas of the Project, were undertaken in Rarotonga & Aitutaki by Project staff between 30th July and 13th August 2005.
  • Discussions with Cook Islands on locating Map Servers equipment ordered.
  • Mrs Sylvia Tapuke has been recruited as Country Intern for Cook Islands.
