About PIEPSAP
PIEPSAP project is an outcome of the World Summit on Sustainable Development that was held in Johannesburg in 2002 where two initiatives were launched: The PICs regional energy sector umbrella initiative, Pacific Islands Energy for Sustainable Development (PIESD) and the European Union Energy Initiative for Poverty Eradication for Sustainable Development (EUEI). In 2003 the Danish Government agreed to fund the PIEPSAP project under the EU Energy Initiative.
The PIEPSAP project started 15 August, 2004. It is planned for a period of three years. Consultations on PIEPSAP’s approach and operating procedures with countries were carried out during the Joint Regional Energy Meeting (REM 2004) and Pacific Islands Energy Policy and Strategic Action Plan (PIEPSAP) From the PIEPSAP Team Consultative Meeting held from 29 Nov – 3 Dec 2004, Madang, PNG.
During REM 2004 Countries through working group exercises and discussions indicated country priorities and needs under PIEPSAP project.
